The Forge Initiative is hosting two team building workshops for anybody who would like to learn and discuss intentional team building. This is geared toward FIRST teams but is also appropriate for coaches of other high school STEM programs.

Intro to Building a High Performing Team
Saturday, Oct 7, 2017 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Teams are built of individuals. High Performing teams are groups of individuals who share goals, values and approaches to solving difficult problems together,. What *is* the process that takes a diverse set of individuals with somewhat shared interests -- and results in a highly aligned, organized team that strives to achieve and learns from its experience working together? We will explore Tuckman’s stages of team formation, offer insights into interactions and tools for facilitating this process, especially among teens preparing for competition. The workshop will take the form of short presentations interspersed with hands-on interactive activities used to ground the material in experience.

Customize Team Builders to Achieve Team Goals
October 14, 2017 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Team builders come in all shapes and sizes. They can also be used for many different purposes, from introducing new learning to practicing listening skills. They can also be used to move the team further through traditional Tuckman’s Team Formation stages to get to the high performing level that is desired at competition. Coaches who have a large repertoire of team builders and are comfortable modifying them to fit the specific needs of the team can use them effectively to meet a large number of goals. This workshop focuses on categories of team builders and how to modify them to meet your needs.

This workshop is provided to you by Linda Whipker and Rob Mackie who have coached a large number of robotics teams together and separately, and used intentional team building activities with teams as young as 7 yo and mature adult teams.
